Description:

Designed for environmental professionals, this course delivers practical, real-world applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) used in environmental investigations and site remediation projects. Participants will gain insight into how GIS supports data visualization, field collection, environmental analysis, regulatory reporting, and NJDEP deliverable requirements through demonstrations, examples, and industry-focused workflows. 

Course presentations include:

• High-level overview of GIS fundamentals, coordinate systems, elevations, and upcoming NOAA state plane changes
• Demonstration of mobile field data collection tools and methods for linking analytical and spatial datasets
• Practical use of GIS tools for environmental analysis, including interpolation, groundwater contouring, and spatial averaging techniques
• Guidance on NJDEP site remediation mapping standards, GIS submissions, and figure preparation best practices
• Strategies for creating clear maps, visualizations, and GIS deliverables to support environmental reporting and decision-making
